FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW DO I PREPARE A RESIN BODY FOR PAINTING?
The mold release agent may resist paint. We recommend that you wash your body shell with soap and water We would also recommend sealing the resin with clear
lacquer (Testors Glosscote) before beginning the application of primer and paint The lacquer soakes into the resin and gives it a harder surface. It also gives the primer paint, something to "bite" into.
After sealing the resin with Testors' Glosscote, then use Plasticote's Sandable Primer... white or gray... as an undercoat/primer.
We prefer to use Plasticote automotive rattle-can "touch up" paint... from the auto parts store. Model enamels and R/C paint should also work O.K.,
once the resin is sealed and primed.
HOW DO I MAKE A REPAIR TO A RESIN BODY OR ATTACH HARDWARE TO IT?
If you wish to reinforce your body shell for racing, repair a crack, or attach body mounting hardware, we recommend that you use DEVCON PLASTIC WELDER for this
purpose. It can be found at Wal-Mart and stores of that type.
HOW DO I FIX A RESIN BODY THAT APPEARS TO BE WARPED?
There are two ways to deal with a warped resin body... both involve heat. You can submerge the body in very hot water for about 30 seconds... hold it in the
position you want and then transfer it to cold water. It will "set" in the new position.
Another method is to "mount" the body to the frame... or some other solid object. We suggest using tape to hold it in the proper position. Then, go over
the body slowly with a hair dryer, until it becomes hot. When it cools, it will hold the new position.
HOW DO I ATTACH A WINDSHIELD TO A RESIN BODY?
First, it is very important to carefully trim the windshield to fit tightly to the body
The adhesive that we recommend is a WHITE LIGHTNING product labeled "50 year TRIPOLYMER SEALENT ", "CLEAR" "PREMIUM SILICONIZED ACRYLIC
LATEX SEALANT"....SKU (stock keeping unit) = SKU WL05010 (10 oz.). You find it a home improvement centers with the silicone caulking and such. WHITE LIGHTNING comes out of the tube as a white, opaque, creamy
calk and cures clear. Squirt a little blob on a plastic lid and applying (w/a toothpick) a bead at the bottom and inner 1/32" of the windshield. Once it is well cured, slit and peel off any of the unwanted
over-glueing.
